My Dancing Girl

I will admit that I’m a reality TV junkie, in fact, I think I admit that often. However, there is one show that we don’t watch because I want to, we watch because Khaila wants to. That little girl is addicted to Dancing With The Stars! This video is from last year. She would get up to dance every time a couple walked onto the dance floor, and then lay down through the scoring and commercials. After watching this a few times, it was time to record it. You know, had to for the grandparents who live 700 miles away!

Assumptions with Partial Facts

Filed under: Rants from the News — by Mada @ 9:30 pm

Today, it was announced that a fire that killed one man was intentionally set. He had gone into the house to try to get his 16 year old step-daughter out. She was hospitalized, but he died.

In the news stories floating around, it is mentioned that a 16 year old girl is being questioned. Because she’s a juvenile, they are not releasing her name. While it’s easy to assume the 16 year old being questioned is the step-daughter, it’s just that, an assumption. The radio went so far as to report that it was the girl, with comments like, “Since she was the only 16 year old female in the home…” and other various words.

No matter who the girl is, the story is sad. Nothing will bring Jeffrey Sullivan back. If it was the step-daughter, I can’t imagine the pain the family is going through right now. I can’t fathom trying to wrap my head around a child setting fire to their family’s home, luckily I don’t have to. If it was her, was she trying to hurt her family? Was this an attention grabbing idea that backfired on her? Why? And if it was her, she will have to deal with the guilt of killing her mother’s husband for as long as she lives.

I hope this story will have a better outcome than it seems it is going to. And until the facts are known, I really hope the news outlets will be a bit more professional. This could have the potential to get someone in big trouble if it should turn out to be someone other than the step-daughter.

Marrying the Boss

Romeo and Juliet meets “The Apprentice” is how Megan Kelly describes her first book on the homepage of her website. Ms. Kelly’s debut, “Marrying the Boss”,  features Leanne Fairbanks and Mark Collins competing for the CEO position left vacant by the death of Lionel Collins. Both have their reasons to fight to the bitter end for the title, but they’re faced with feelings much deeper than a career.

The beginning of the book confused me a bit. In the first few pages, I found myself having to reference back to figure out who was who. Once I got that straightened out, it was smooth sailing. Ms. Kelly did a remarkable job of keeping readers on their toes, wondering who was going to win and whether the battle would destroy their chances of romance.

I make no secret of the fact that any book referencing Wisconsin tends to hold a special place in my heart, and “Marrying the Boss” was no exception. I couldn’t help but laugh as I read the words, “Her beaming smile felt warmer than the Wisconsin sun.” as I looked out the window on a cold and gloomy day. And I knew it had to be a Saturday when they visited my state as she referenced missing the fish boil the night before. The only thing is, it’s not a fish boil, it’s a fish fry! Not to worry, that’s one of those things that I think only a Wisconsinite would notice!

I look forward to Megan Kelly’s next release, “The Fake Fiancee”, due out in July! If her debut novel was wonderfully told, I think we can expect great things to come!
